“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth
there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge,
shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them that love His appearing.”
(2 Timothy4:7-8)
On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, Delpheen Alethia Buie Bush graduated from labor to reward.
The shock was severe for we never thought death was so near, but we believe that God
with His infinite wisdom is too wise to make a mistake and too just to be unkind.
On March 11, 1950, Delpheen was born in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Melvin Buie
and Emmareen Cann Buie. Delpheen was educated in Portsmouth Public School
System and graduated from I. C. Norcom High School in June 1969. She enlisted in
the Army on November 10, 1969 and was honorably discharged April 2, 1970. Upon
leaving the army, Delpheen attended Norfolk State College (University) for three years
and majored in Social Work.
Delpheen accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Garden of
Prayer Temple in Portsmouth, Virginia. She became a part of the consecrated group of
women participating in the Noon Day Prayer at the church which was led by Missionary
Rachel Harris. These prayer warriors interceded for many who were delivered and set
free. Delpheen also sang in the young adult choir. As an adult until death, Delpheen
remained a faithful, financial, and proud member of the Garden of Prayer Temple now
located in Norfolk, VA and attended physically whenever possible.
For the past twenty years, when Delpheen was not able to attend The Garden of Prayer
Temple, she regularly worshipped at the Senior Center of the (then named Effingham
Plaza Senior Outreach Ministry) now named Silver Tree Seniors Center Outreach
Ministry under Founder, Elder Charlie Williams and anointed Elder Jacob Johnson.
On January 25, 1990, Delpheen was married to the love of her life Toeshane Bush.
Toeshane and Delpheen enjoyed the Lord and each other until his death on June 12,
2007.
Delpheen is predeceased by two siblings Nancy Louise Buie and Melvin Daniel Buie,
one aunt Caretha Cann Cross, four uncles Frank James Cann, Rev. Malachi Cann,
Lawrence Leroy Cann, Monty Malone Cann, three cousins Dennis Samuel Cann,
Gladys Cann Williams, Carolyn Cann Simon. Delpheen leaves to cherish her memory,
five cousins Lillian Cann Norman, Hortense Delester Cross, Dr. Beth Cross Smith,
Ralph Cornelious Cross, all of Portsmouth, Virginia and Joycelyn Cross Whitehurst of
Virginia Beach, Virginia, great nieces, nephew, and a host of other friends. To know
Delpheen was to love her. We will miss her dearly, but we must bow to the Master’s
perfect will.
