Stanley Bruce Gilliam Jr. often referred to as “Stan” was born on November 4, 1949 in Windsor,
NC to the late Stanley Sr. and Lottie Gilliam. He peacefully departed on Monday, March 4,
2024.

Stanley graduated from Southwestern High School in Windsor, NC in 1968. After graduating from
high school, he relocated to Philadelphia, PA where he enlisted in the United States Navy. After
being honorably discharged from the Navy, he met the love of his life, Donnie. The two were
united in marriage on October 27, 1973. He worked as a machine operator for 30+ years at Whiting-Patterson Paper Company.

Stanley was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, playing pool, and doing word search puzzles. Stan was a fun loving and easy-going person, who NEVER met a stranger!!
He would love to talk and joke around with the fellow residents at the apartment complex, the
grocery store, and his favorite store, Roses. Stan was a “man’s man” who always did whatever it took
to provide for Donnie and their two children, from working two to three part-time jobs in addition to
his full-time job. He also did “Hacking” which is providing rides home for people leaving the grocery store. Stan was the type of man that never missed a day off of work, because a day off was
just never something he considered. The younger Stan we all knew and loved would absolutely
run circles around this new generation of work from home and hybrid workers. He was also never
excited about the finer things in life, he was a simple man, and simple things is what made him happy.
That’s just who he was, and he wasn’t going to change that for anybody!

Stanley was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Sr., his mother, Lottie and his brother,
McArthur. Memories will be cherished by his wife of 50 years, Donnie “Dee”, his son,
Derick (Stephanie), his daughter, Dana (Tony), granddaughter, Tavia, grandsons, Kyre and Dyson,
great granddaughter, Aubrey “Precious”, goddaughter, Denine, godson, Mason, sisters,
Elma (Mack), Debbie (Veradie), brother, Larry, brother-in-law, Hoover Jr., sisters-in-law, Marion Yvonne and Charmaine, bonus son, Redell, bonus daughter, Laurie, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and one special “grand dog”, Minty.

He will truly be missed!
